When you need something that can feed a hungry crowd without keeping you stuck in the kitchen, these Smoky BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders with Zesty Lime Slaw deliver. The pork cooks low and slow until it's tender enough to pull apart, then gets piled onto soft slider buns with smoky BBQ sauce, creamy lime slaw, crispy onions, and tangy pickled red onions.

What really makes these sliders stand out is the zesty lime slaw. The fresh lime cuts through the rich, smoky pork and BBQ sauce, adding just the right amount of brightness to every bite. It's that fresh, bold contrast that makes these sliders feel distinctly Sizzling Lime.

Most of the work happens while the pork cooks, so when it's time to eat, all you have to do is pile everything onto the buns and let everyone dig in. And trust me—make plenty. Smoky BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders with Zesty Lime Slaw Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Slow-Cook the Pork

Rub the pork shoulder evenly on all sides with the smoky dry rub. Place it in your slow cooker and pour the apple cider vinegar around the base. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours (or HIGH for 4 to 5 hours) until the pork is pull-apart tender.

  2. Shred and Sauce

Transfer the pork to a cutting board or large bowl and shred using two forks, discarding any excess fat. Stir in 1 cup of BBQ sauce until every bite is coated and glossy.

  3. Mix the Zesty Lime Slaw

While the pork rests, whisk together the mayonnaise, fresh lime juice, lime zest, honey, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Fold in the shredded cabbage and carrots until coated. Cover and chill in the fridge until ready to serve.

  4. Warm the Skillet & Toast Buns

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the slider buns in half horizontally. Brush the inside tops and bottoms with melted butter and toast on a large baking sheet or directly in a large cast-iron skillet for 3–5 minutes until golden brown.

  5. Layer and Melt

On the bottom half of the slider buns (or right inside your oven-safe cast-iron skillet), layer the warm pulled pork, topped generously with shredded cheddar cheese. Pop back into the oven for 3–5 minutes until the cheese is completely melted and bubbly.

  6. Top and Serve

Remove from the oven and pile on the crunchy lime slaw, crispy fried onion straws, and pickled red onions. Place the top buns over the sliders, slice into individual portions, and serve hot right from the skillet!

Sizzling Tips for Game Day Success

  • Make-Ahead Friendly: Cook and shred the pork 1–2 days in advance. Reheat it in a skillet with a splash of apple juice or extra BBQ sauce right before assembling.

  • Keep the Buns Crisp: Toasting the slider buns before adding the warm BBQ meat creates a barrier that keeps the rolls from getting soggy.

  • Bonus Citrus Sizzle: Squeeze a splash of fresh lime juice directly over the pulled pork right as it comes out of the slow cooker for an extra layer of bright flavor!

  • Don't dress the slaw too early.Make it a few hours ahead if needed, but don't let it sit overnight because the cabbage will lose some crunch.

  • Don't put the slaw under the cheese.Keep it on top so you get that hot/cold, creamy/crunchy contrast.

  • Use fresh lime. This is one of those recipes where bottled lime juice won't have the same impact.

Why This Works

Pulled pork and BBQ sauce are already a winning combination, but the zesty lime slaw takes these sliders to another level. The pork is smoky, savory, and rich, while the fresh lime adds a bright acidity that keeps every bite from feeling too heavy.

Then you get the creamy crunch of the slaw, the sweetness of the BBQ sauce, and the salty crispness of the onions and pickled red onions. Every bite has a little something different—smoky, tangy, creamy, crunchy, and just the right amount of bold flavor.

Best of all, this is the kind of meal that works for real life. Let the pork cook while you handle the rest of the day, make the slaw ahead of time, and assemble everything when you're ready to eat. Big flavor without a lot of last-minute work—that's exactly what we love at Sizzling Lime.
